Things To Do
There are many things to do at Kumul Lodge, so we would recommend staying beteen 1 - 2 weeks. The lodge is stretched out over an area of 27 hectares. All the grounds between the Lodge and the Hagen Mountain belongs to the owners of the lodge, this also includes the Hagen Mountain itself.

There are now 6 walking tracks, all named and numbered and ranging from 30 minute walks to 6 hour walks. You can also walk around the Hagen mountain or walk up the mountain (2-3 days). So you will experience total nature and total relaxation like hardly at any other environmental setup in Papua New Guinea.

Enjoy the view from our scenic lounge room towards the Hagen mountain or sit around the open fire side during the cool mountain evenings.

Do birdwatching and discover the various species of birds at and around the lodge. There are over 220 species of birds which can be seen on the grounds of the lodge and nearby areas. This comprises of 75% of all Bird of Paradise species in Papua New Guinea.

Enjoy the unspoilt high altitude mountain area during nature walks. Come see the 2 lakes high up on the peaks of the Hagen Mountain.
Have a walk around the lodge and the Hagen mountain area to discover the beauty and splendour of our colourful mountain orchids; high altitude insect life and
alpine plant life and tree life.
Trek to the top of the adjacent Hagen Mountain (3,727 metres / 11,419 feet). Stay in a mountain cave hotel for overnighting up there.
See the nearby mighty waterfalls and a cassowary sanctuary
Meet and chat with our friendly people and visit their village communities.
Try their foot bridge constructed of local materials and visit their small cultural centre.
Visit the youth self-support project of a lowland orchid farm which is assisting the youth on informal work and income.
A bus service by the lodge is available to accommodate larger groups of visitors for sightseeing tours. (up to 15 people)
The Kumul Lodge is the perfect place to stay for visitors to the Enga Cultural Show (2nd weekend in August) and the Western Highlands Cultural Show (3rd
weekend in August).
Take a day trip to the 'Waiyep Orchid and Rhododendron Gardens Village Resort' in Laigam in the centre of the Enga Province (2,200 metres / 6,600 feet). See a traditional men's house; a traditional womans hut; a traditional bush material bridge and enjoy the still village like atmosphere of a village like lodge which is still under development.
